Born and raised in South Central Los Angeles, Jorge Guerra is a child of Guatemalan immigrants who arrived to the United States during the Guatemalan Civil War. He received his B.A. in English with an emphasis in Creative Writing, and he received his M.F.A. in Fiction at the Iowa Writers' Workshop at The University of Iowa. He is currently a Lecturer at Latina/o/x Studies program and the Magid Center for Undergraduate Writing and the faculty advisor of the Storm Lake Scholarship.
